Figures published last week revealed that Taylor Swift made the most money in the music industry last year, with sales of her records, live shows and music t-shirts bringing her a whopping £22.7 million.
Second on the list were hoary old Irish rockers U2, who earned £20 million between them. The seven million-plus people who came to one of the gigs on their international 360 tour will certainly have helped this figure.
Country music singer Kenny Chesney trousered a cool £19 million, making it into third place. Chesney had a big hit last year, with his January 2011 number one single Somewhere with You.
In fourth place was the reliably bizarre Lady Gaga, who earned £16 million last year. Maybe if she spend a little less on her outfits, she could have beaten t-shirt-and-jeans-guy Chesney!
Rap star Li’l Wayne took fifth place, having made just under £15 million in 2011. His latest album, Tha Carter IV, came straight in at number one on the US Billboard chart last July, and the 964,000 copies sold in the first week of its release alone will have helped his bank balance.
