The Black-Eyed Peas are internationally famous, with their name emblazoned on music t-shirts the world over, but this week, singer Fergie admitted that many of their songs feature “stupid” lyrics – and she just doesn’t care.
Fergie, part of the Black-Eyed Peas along with will.i.am, apl.de.ap and Taboo, said in an interview with Q magazine that she liked the left-field approach to song-writing that characterised the band, adding that they were fully aware that many lyrics were nonsensical.
“Well, some people get the joke and some people just don’t get it,” Fergie said.
“It takes a certain humour to be in his group and the ability to laugh at oneself. Some of our lyrics are quite stupid. We know!”
The singer went on to say that although she would not claim that the Black-Eyed Peas write the best lyrics in the world, the songs should not be criticised for this. She said that their music was meant to be “fun” and fans should always remember how hard the band has had to work for its success.
