No need for U2 fans to rend their music t-shirts in grief just yet – frontman Bono insisted today that he is in perfect health, following weekend reports of an emergency visit to hospital in southern France.
The 51-year-old singer was on holiday in France with his family when he was reportedly rushed to hospital suffering severe chest pains. The story was carried throughout the world, which must have given a scare to U2 fans everywhere.
However, yesterday Bono denied the reports and insisted that he was fighting fit, with a spokesman telling the news agency Reuters that “despite press stories to the contrary, Bono has not suffered a recent health scare.”
The spokesman said that Bono had been to Princess Grace hospital in Monaco last week, but this was merely for a routine check-up.
Bono was enjoying a break following a successful world U2 tour, in which the band broke international records for ticket sales.
