Soul diva Beyonce Knowles revealed this week that it was Coldplay frontman Chris Martin who persuaded her to take to the stage at the Glastonbury Festival, which begins tomorrow.
Currently riding high with her “Run the World (Girls)” single, the singer was wary about appearing at the festival following the controversy surrounding the 2008 headline appearance of her husband Jay-Z – although the final show was generally agreed to be a triumph.
Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis told the Radio Times it was Chris Martin that had talked her round, adding “Chris is a bit wary of people knowing he’s been so involved. I don’t know why because it’s actually cool.”
“Chris is as loyal as they come – he’ll do anything for Glastonbury. He’s really an unlikely frontman. Most people are a bit more all-consumed with their own thing.”
This year, headline sets at the Glastonbury Festival will include performances by Coldplay and U2, as well as Beyonce, and sales of music t-shirts are sure to soar during the festivities.
