Of all of the celebrities in all of the world, it is probably safe to say that Gwyneth Paltrow is the last Hollywood A-lister that you could expect to be counted in the
ranks of fans of gangsta rap pioneers NWA.
Iron Man star Paltrow, possibly more well known for her tearful emotional outburst at the 1999 Oscar ceremony and for her marriage to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin than her acting, stated in a recent interview : “Between my junior and senior years of High School I discovered NWA, which became an obsession…. I learned every word of straight Outta Compton, and still remember every lyric to F*ck Tha Police.”
NWA, built around the core members of Eazy E, Dr Dre and Ice Cube in the late 1980s, were the first of many extreme ‘gangsta rap’ groups to come out of the West Coast hip hop scene at the time, with acts such as Ice T and Too Short included – laying the foundations for the careers of future rap superstars such as Tupac Shakur and Snoop Doggy Dogg.
