He may look cool as a cucumber on his posters, album covers and music t-shirts, but rap star Kanye West appeared to lose it this weekend during a troubled set at the Big Chill festival in Hertfordshire.
Already appearing late – allegedly due to backstage arguments with the festival organisers – Kanye eventually came on stage in a foul temper and with a hoarse voice from shouting. The crowd grew restless as he yelled at a band member for making a mistake and stormed off stage.
When he came back, he lectured the audience for 10 minutes, insisting that he was misunderstood.
During the oration, Kanye insisted: “This is my most important gig of the summer – but I’m really frustrated. I only have half of my voice. I just want things to be right. This is the reason we started half an hour late.”
“There is so much bullshit going on in the music industry right now. Someone needs to make a difference. People treat me like Hitler.”
