It is one of the major factors in Kylie Minogue‘s enduring appeal – despite the ‘Showgirl’ glitz, she always comes over as human.
Whether it was as down to earth Charlene in Neighbours, the clubbing icon of the ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ years or the more seasoned performer she is today, those ‘Kylie’ music t-shirts are not going to stop being in demand for quite a while yet, thanks to her cuteness, her professionalism, her sincerity – and her readiness to admit to slip ups.
The latter was perhaps most in evidence this week at London’s Hammersmith Apollo during her Anti Tour, in which Kylie is playing a series of more intimate shows in London and Manchester for her most loyal fans, giving them a chance to see her perform songs from her back catalogue.
During her 1991 version of the Chairmen of the Board‘s 1970 hit ‘Give Me Just A Little More Time’, the petite Aussie singer had a memory lapse and completely forgot the song’s lyrics. Relying on the supportive audience to help her out, she was guided back onto the true path by them, and eventually finished.
With clear relief on her face, Kylie told the audience “I just murdered that song. Thank you for helping me out.”
