Now web-savvy music fans can see what bands, acts and tracks are trending the highest across the plethora of music websites and social networks, thanks to the launch last week of a new free-to-air social media music chart.
The latest thing to hit the web, Groovecount.com, looks at the status and exposure of artists on the likes of Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Spotify and Last.fm, rating their mentions by number of followers and fans, the amount of plays their tracks receive, and the amount of listeners and discussions they are picking up. The final figures are the “Groovecount.”
The new service plans to rank the most popular – or at least the most talked about – artists in weekly and monthly lists, so fans can stay on top of whether their favoured musicians are going up or down. Viewers can see how the artists rate by genre, country, region – or all three. And the data collected is being continuously updated, so it has never been easier to keep your pulse on what’s happening in music – although the service has not yet started charting the popularity of music t-shirts!
Some of the latest findings by Groovecount are that Lady Gaga dominates social networks, with more people following her goings on than anyone else. Only Eminem and Justin Bieber come close. When it comes to the top trending artist, R&B singer Rihanna is top of the pops in both the weekly and monthly charts, and when broken down into individual sites, Lady Gaga is again supreme – this time on Twitter, while Justin Bieber is the king of YouTube.
