Producer-turned-rapper P. Diddy was declared the king of bling this week after Forbes magazine revealed that he is the wealthiest hip-hop artist in the US – and therefore the world.
With a personal fortune reckoned at $475 million, and a business empire to boot, P. Diddy even pipped Jay-Z to the post – with his mere $450 million fortune – in the Forbes hip-hop rich list.
Jay-Z is, however, the highest paid rap star, earning $63 million last year from album sales, touring and his income from the 40/40 nightclub chain and his share of the New Jersey Jets basketball team. Meanwhile, P. Diddy brought in just $30 million from his own Sean John clothing label, his record label Bad Boy Worldwide and his own vodka brand Ciroc.
Coming third place on the list was Dr Dre, who sits on a $125 million fortune, followed by 50 Cent and Bryan Birdman’ Williams, who can lay claim to $100 million apiece.
