Alt-metal band Deftones allegedly sparked a riot in Bangkok this week after being forced to cancel a gig in the Thai capital.
The Grammy-winning US rockers were due to play at the city’s massive Thunderdome Arena, with capacity for 25,000 fans, but the show was shelved due to “electrical problems,” following a 90-minute delay to the scheduled 8pm start time.
Furious fans took their frustration out in the surrounding neighbourhood, reportedly smashing street stalls and fixtures, according to local news agencies.
However, the band did not mention the riot on their website when they mentioned the cancelled gig, simply saying that it was scrapped after “local power issues” had “threatened the safety of the band and their fans.”
The statement added: “Deftones would like to apologize to those that were inconvenienced and hope to return to Thailand in the near future. Refund info to follow soon.”
